Bathing is often a frightening and dreadful activity for those with Alzheimer’s disease.
When soap is applied to the dog, it appears dirty, shifting the caretaker’s narrative:
While washing the dog, the patient bathes herself.
The responsibility of washing the dog gives the patient a sense of purpose in the bathroom, taking the focus off the discomfort of bathing.
